MTSU operates the only milk processing facility in a higher education institution in TN, and is a primary source of trained personnel for the dairy industry in the region. MTSU needs an industry-standard milk analysis unit to train students in the use of industry-standard technology as well as ensure compliance with State milk processing regulations (this facility processes all milk served on campus— to 20,000+ students). This analyzer will be used in conjunction with the Milk Processing (ABAS 3810) and Dairy Production (ABAS 3540) classes, which are taught every year (approximately 50 students/year). Cell and embryo culture in agriculture has become standard practice, particularly with regard to the advancement of animal genetics in production. MTSU proposes to equip a laboratory devoted to the teaching of animal cell and embryo culture to better prepare our students to use current technology. This lab will be used in conjunction with the teaching of ABAS 3420, 3440, 4510, and 4470 (livestock production and reproductive physiology courses), and special problems research courses (approximately 90 students/year). To continue research into the development of an economically feasible hydrogen-fueled car, a hydrogen compressor is required. This equipment will compress hydrogen gas for experimental vehicle fuel.
