The TXMD program has grown dramatically to over 200 students with the TXMD courses currently serving over 450 students annually. With this recent steady growth with the program, we anticipate an even larger need for facilities. Equipment specific to the prgram is housed in EHS 110, thus it has become exclusive to TXMD courses. TXMD 1100, 3100, 3120, 3140, 3190, 4110 and 4160 are lab/studio courses requiring enrolled students to spend 5-10 hours weekly in this room. TXMD 3150, 3160, 3180, 4150, 4170 are taught in EHS 110 as well. Students in all of these classes are currently missing out on teaching/learning/metholdology offered via computer technology; industry specific software/equipment which is imperative to prepare students to compete successfully in the apparel industry. Even in comparing the results of the MTSU Spring 2002 Graduating Seniors Survey, there was a drastic decline in satisfaction with the Spring 2001 Survey. The comparison is as follows: Category Ranking as Good or Excellent Spring 2001 Spring 2002 Classroom Facilities 63% 57% Lab Facilites 88% 50% Computer Resources 88% 64% Ellington Human Sciences Building currently has 5 classrooms, 3 of which have been converted to Master Classrooms. Professors are using the equipment in every course and with TXMD students also having classes in these classrooms, they are experiencing the updated equipment. Obviously from the results of the surveys and comments which we often receive, it is apparent that they notice the differences in these updated rooms and the rooms that most of their major courses are in. Since the fashion industry is a very technological area, its appears as if they of all students should have the necessary classroom technology and not be penalized just because of the classes being in a more discipline specific classroom. TXMD professors and students alike would appreciate and enjoy being able to use the technology which they have experienced in the other classrooms.
