Upgrade KOM CBAS open lab. Expand remote lab access, upgrade disk storage, upgrade management tools, and add servers. Remote access cuts hours this lab complex need be open and reduces labor costs while improving overall software access. We currently have over 500 accounts for remote desktop but can serve only about 30 concurrently. Expanded disk storage capacity will accommodate increasing use. Replace outdated LINUX server which manages our LINUX computers and provides essential Windows Network services. Add two small network switches to raise the free ports from 13 to about 40 on our main switch. Add remote IP console enabling off-site troubleshooting. Our current server rack is full. An additional rack will provide space to properly mount and cool equipment and allow for growth. Two application servers will give the ability to run other applications for student use; backup software will be required for these servers. KOM 360 is due for Category 0 replacement in 2006-2007. Stock replacement machines have insufficient hardware resources for computer science applications. We are requesting 37 replacement machines below at full price, although this may be reduced to a supplement over the stock machine price if the main cost is funded in Category 0.
