The Department of Political Science has priority scheduling for just three classrooms, only one of which is currently a master classroom. We simply cannot accommodate the rising faculty demand for instructional technology with just that single master classroom. Several of our faculty members are eager to schedule all of their courses in master classrooms, and many of our other faculty teach one or more courses that are greatly enhanced in a master classroom. The types of courses we offer make classroom technology especially important. The ability to access and display current information (maps, electoral results, breaking news stories, and so on) from the internet is vital to keep up in the fast-changing world of politics. In addition, over a typical academic year, we offer over five or more sections of film-based courses for which a master classroom is imperative. Converting Peck Hall 212 into a master classroom would directly benefit about 1350 students per year (approximately 38 courses, with up to 36 students per course, are conducted in that room each academic year). In addition, the room is often used for special meetings and presentations attended by several hundred students over the year.
