Replacement of Existing Technology

The current console is over 11 years old. Some critical parts are no longer available for repair. Console down time needed for repair has increased dramatically during last year. Console software is DOS based and is no longer supported.

This project is to replace the audio console in recording studio B. The current console is at the end of its life expectancy for reasons noted below. The requested API console is a new, custom built, machine. It is available to us at approximately one half its usual retail cost, from the manufacturer, because the original owner went bankrupt before the console was delivered. (Similar consoles by other manufactures have been priced at over one half million dollars.) The API console architecture, combined with the GML automation system will provide our students with professional quality equipment that will be an industry standard for years to come. The availability of this particular console offers us a unique cost saving opportunity. Classes using this console include RIM 303, 440, 465, 466 and 467. Average enrollment per semester is 330 students, for an annual total of 660 students. Becasue of the nature of this project partial funding is not an option.
