The Alumni Memorial Gym (AMG) computer lab provides students with University- wide access. It does this with the use of 17 computers, 2 industrial printers, 1 scanner and 1 LCD projector system. On a monthly basis in 2006, approximately 3,000 students (from all colleges) used the lab for academic purposes. This includes GTA’s who also use the equipment in preparation for class. Because most course information is on line and students frequently email instructors, many documents are printed. We propose the purchase of 3 new printers with 3 year warranties. This is because the above normal amount of maintenance has been required for the 2 existing units. Repair is required due to the high volume of printing. With the implementation of 3 printers rather than 2 and the warranty, future maintenance and repair should be unnecessary. Also, we propose to install a slide card system. The doors currently have a key lock and it isn’t secure. The slide lock system would limit current access and serve better to prevent theft or vandalism.
