Currently, students use whiteboards in group study rooms in the library for collaborative learning projects. The problem is that when the whiteboard fills up, everyone has to stop working and take notes of everything on the whiteboard. The Library’s open labs propose a solution to that problem by including a fixed-mount high-resolution camera focused on the whiteboard, in the group study room linked to a computer in the room. Students can easily save their work done on the room's whiteboard and with one touch, send the output to a web server where the image may be printed, saved, or incorporated into a PowerPoint presentation. That way, students can concentrate on collaborative learning rather than scribbling notes. The Copy-cam, with one touch of a button will preserve everything that is written on the whiteboard. Images are saved as .PNG files which are highly portable. By also having a computer in the group study room, students may undertake online research as they are working together. While not as feature-rich as some interactive whiteboards, the combination Copy-cam with the existing whiteboard is simple to use, with a very low learning curve. Students can concentrate on the work, not on the room’s technology.
