The School of ABAS is requesting two items that will be used for ABAS courses and student-based research projects. The first is a Flex-Fuel Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle Assimilation System, which will be adapted from an existing commercial gasoline vehicle to run from both the sun and hydrogen from water. The system will be used in ABAS 4210 (Agriculture Power & Equipment) and ABAS 4910 (Problems in Agriculture). This would benefit approximately 75 students per year in ABAS. In addition, this assimilation system could be used for public service, benefiting 300 Agricultural Education teachers and their 20,000 students throughout the state. (Refer to Ricketts testimony before Congress: http:www.house.gov/science/hearings/energy/06/May%2017/Ricketts.pdf). The other item that we are requesting is a York dairy analyzer. The dairy analyzer will be used for determining amounts of fat, protein, lactose, and solids in milk. This equipment is standard in most milk processing laboratories across the U.S., and it would improve our ability to conduct dairy research projects and educate students in the following courses: Milk Processing, Food Processing, Food Industry, Food Quality Control, and Dairy Production, thus benefiting 150 students per year.
