Project Description: AMG116 is a classroom in the basement of AMG. It is a “normal” classroom. We propose turning it into a “state-of the art” statistics oriented master classroom/laboratory. The Psychology Department educates about 300 students in statistics each year. This number includes undergraduate basic and advanced statistics courses (Psy 3020 and 4080) as well as 2 large, required graduate courses (2 sections each year of 6280 and 6290). Psy 3020 is a required course for all psych majors while Psy 6280 and 6290 are required for 90% of the Psych graduate students. All have required computer lab aspects to them. There are also at least 6 specialty statistics courses offered once per year, for an additional 30-40 students, that also require access to the specialized stat software that will be installed on the 25 computers that will go into the room. The Psychology Dept will be responsible for the statistics components of two doctoral programs (Literacy Studies and Health and Human Performance). There will be additional students beyond the numbers cited above. As a master classroom designed to seat approximately 25 students, it will be used throughout the day for the necessary, required, computer based aspect of the statistics courses. The department is being pressured to move from classrooms in Peck Hall as part of a move towards college “domains”. Should we receive the funds to convert AMG116 our department would vacate a classroom that we currently occupy in Peck Hall. Specifically we would relinquish PH 313.
