Psychology is a research intensive discipline that requires specialized equipment for classroom instruction, training and for research purposes. Discipline specific equipment (hardware) requested is for 1) an EEG machine and the ancillary equipment needed to operate this brain wave recording device, and 2) an eyetracking device. These devices are needed for training of students in graduate programs and also for research, involving undergraduate and graduate students, that faculty will be pursuing. The training and research, for areas involving experimental, clinical and potentially school psychology will involve undergraduate and graduate students. Approximately 100 students will likely be involved over the course of an academic year. A number of copies of different psychological test "kits" are also needed. These "kits" will be used for both educational training and research purposes in the School Psychology, Clinical and Industrial/Organizational areas in our department. The various kits will enable us to expand and update what is being taught to our students for the assessment of 1) Neuropsychological conditions (including sensory, verbal, mood and attentional components) 2) Intellectual Assessment and 3) aptitude and abilities as it applies to the workplace. The kits will also allow graduate students to conduct valuable research, with faculty, in these areas. We are requesting three years of licensing fees for SPSS and SAS both of which are statistical software packages used in our undergraduate and graduate statistics courses. We generally have 300-400 students per year who need access to these statistical packages. The Authorware software requested will be used by the Industrial/Organizational group in both undergraduate and graduate courses (50-100 students per year). This software provides invaluable experience, required in today’s workplace, to put together training programs for various workplace and organizational settings. The Dept of Psychology has a subject pool in which virtually all Psych 1410 (Intro Psych) students participate. This population is approximately 4000 student per year. Participants sign up for various studies being conducted by the Psychology Dept faculty, undergraduates (under direct faculty supervision)and graduate students conducting thesis research (an additional population of approx 250 students). The software by Sona corporation (at $950 per year) will be utilized by all of those listed above to facilitate the participation of the Intro Psych students in the various studies. Thus, the mostly freshman population, will directly benefit. Freshman will be introduced early in their careers (often 1st semester) to the use of computers in ways that will facilitate their integration into the university community. This software is also unique to the discipline in that the record keeping that goes with the software will insure no records are lost.
