Because the MTSU History Department has been selected for memebership in the Southeastern Archives Education Collaborative (SAEC; see http://www.an-art-design.com/proofs/saec), the department requests renovation of our coputer lab to master classroom status to enable our graduate students, at the MS and PhD levels, to enroll in a breadth of courses taught by expert instructors from four other institutions in real-time. Currently, students do not have adequate access to SAEC courses because faculty are forced to compete for the two existing university classrooms. We would be adding cameras, ceiling microphones, and switching hardware and software to our computer lab so we can deliver and receive compressed and streaming video as needed. Our proposed classroom was designed and will be operated and maintained by the MTSU Distance Education staff. Through enrollment in SAEC courses, students develop a wide network of professional peers and learn new ways to collaborate across distances.
