The Business Communication and Entrepreneurship Department has proposed a new course (BCEN6950, Computer-Based Technologies for e-Training). In addition, students enrolled in BCEN 6620, Research in Business and Marketing Education, need exposure to qualitative research. We need a server (1) to store open source platforms (i.e., Moodle, Sakai, etc.) for students to access these programs and use them to develop their training courses/modules (and to store their training courses/modules on that server as well); and (2) to store two qualitative research software packages (NVivo8 and XSight) for use by students in BCEN6620. Employers are seeking graduates to oversee their Learning Management Systems who have experience in the area of online or e-training. We can better meet the needs of those employers by producing graduates who have the skills they desire. We can also meet the needs of our Business Teacher Education majors through the incorporation of both quantitative and qualitative research instruction. The advent of No Child Left Behind has led to the necessity for teachers to conduct research in their respective positions. Some of the research will involve numerical data; however, much of the information teachers gather about their students is in text form-something that requires qualitative examination.
