This space will be designed as a communication-rich environment where student ideas, interaction and experience are the mode of learning and discovery. The space will accommodate a variety of active learning experiences including student-to student collaboration, innovation, and experimentation/problem-solving. It will serve as an incubator space for students to cultivate and grow ideas and projects through the integration of face-to-face communication and digital tools. The space will consist of white board walls, projection screen, a master classroom cart, portable computer stations, and flexible furniture. The space will be flexible so the classroom can transition from presentation to group work. This will be a cross disciplinary classroom, available to diverse disciplines such as Organizational Communication, Leadership Studies, Communication Studies, and Theatre. This project is critical for the Department for two reasons: (1) we only have 2 Master Classrooms shared among three disciplines; and (2) many of our students are in programs that prepare them for graduate school. This learning and teaching environment will enable our students to compete on any graduate level. The estimated total number of students impacted by this innovative learning environment: 1,487 per year
