This is a joint proposal from the School of Journalism and the Department of Electronic Media Communication. The equipment is to replace 32-year-old photographic equipment, 20-year-old television cameras, 18-year old lighting board, studio and portable lighting kits. The HD studio camera package request is to complete a $100,000 package because donation pledges were unfulfilled. We have purchased parts of the system and have an additional $20,000 available. We need $40,000 to complete. The SnapStream specialized server is designed for capturing and archiving television programming for classroom instruction and research in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, News and EMC’s TV and Digital Communication classes. The Westlaw subscription, utilized by Journalism and EMC for student research and approved by TAF last year, is up for renewal. The LCD monitors are for displaying designs and videos in the media design classes utilizing the latest multimedia technology. The laptops are to be used for projects requiring remote recording and videography and delivery on deadlines. The printers provide the opportunity to print large-format designs using a technology that provides high-quality images at a low cost. Based on this year’s enrollment, this proposal will impact 344 photography students, 693 EMC students, and 200 Journalism students (1,237 total).
