The History Department has more instructors who prefer to use technology (especially the use of PowerPoint for maps and visual images of the past, which are crucial instructional technologies for this generation) than it has capacity. Peck Hall continues to lag behind other buildings in general, and only 1 of the 8 classrooms devoted to History instruction is a master classroom. I am requesting that Peck Hall 214 be converted to a master classroom using the standard configuration plus $300 for the course response system, since our faculty has begun to use this technology when teaching in the LRC. We are also requesting the typical construction costs of $55,000 for upgrading this classroom to a master classroom. Additionally, we were instructed to request Adobe Photoshop (which allows public historians to process photographs, maps, and images and is therefore a standard minimal skill in job advertisements for professionals in public history) and Adobe Illustrator (the preferred graphic design software for public historians who design exhibits, displays, brochures, and other professional work products) for the Public History Technology Training Lab (Peck Hall 221) as part of this request since these softwares are not defined as "discipline-specific."
