We are requesting funds to convert AMG 116 into a master classroom. AMG 116 is currently a standard classroom with capacity of 48 students. The room is one of the worst classrooms on campus and needs upgrading. Not only does it lack presentation equipment, the HVAC unit is inadequate and antiquated. Students and instructors complain about the lack of temperature control (it is usually much too hot) and the condensation leak from the HVAC unit located in the ceiling. In addition, concrete support pillars restrict the line of sight, hence our request for a second projector and screen. Because of the poor condition of the room and the lack of equipment, this is our least preferred classroom. Despite faculty resistance, the room is heavily scheduled (because we do not have space available elsewhere). For Spring 08, the department scheduled 11 prime-time sections in this classroom, but many (if not all) of the faculty members assigned to the room attempted to relocate or change their class time to find a more suitable room; 4 were able to do so. The department has over 900 graduate and undergraduate majors and has critical needs for this space to be upgraded. When converted to a master classroom, the department could utilize the room for classes that would serve a total of 500 students or more.
