This proposal will upgrade KOM 307, a minimally-equipped master classroom, to an "enhanced digital presentation master classroom." It achieves two objectives, (1) enabling concurrent information display and (2) enabling alternative forms of lecture dissemination, including telePresence options. The first is necessary since many Computer Science courses have intensive presentation needs, e.g., for PowerPoint slides describing a process offered simultaneously with a demonstration actually showing the process working. The second is necessary to include students not physically in the classroom, whether because of the physical limitation of the Department's priority classrooms (30 students) or to include students at remote sites, something that can now be done at a dramatically lower cost than a few years ago. The classroom will include components not part of standard master classrooms and will omit some standard components that are unnecessary; the omissions are not a problem since the room already lacks several standard components, and it will be scheduled essentially full-time for use by Computer Science classes. Creation of this alternatively-equipped master classroom offers the University the opportunity to test these new systems in the Computer Science Department which internally has both the technical knowledge and the personnel to support them.
