Opened in 2006, the main purpose of the ACT lab was to provide an innovative classroom that fostered student collaboration and pedagogical experimentation, where new instructional technologies could be tested. In that respect, the lab has proven invaluable and this request focuses on renewing the lab’s original purpose by improving its limitations, most notably the inability to video conference or record useful video files. We wish to repair the existing system, add web conferencing capabilities (providing easier access to guests from anywhere in the world), and add a handheld camcorder (to further facilitate the creation of pod casts). This problem is also compounded by microphone interference from the ventilation system; we suggest replacing with wireless floor microphones. We also wish to augment the 18 slowing and unreliable IBM notepads with MacBook Pros capable of running both Leopard and Windows (and editing of video files). Additionally, the walk-and-talk lectern, which doesn’t reliably transmit video wirelessly, should be replaced with a Smart Sympodium. Also, many chair casters are damaged and should be repaired. Finally, ITD has suggested that we replace the Crestron system with an AMX system that can tie into the campus’s AMX Remote Management System.
