COMM 228 – The area is a combination lecture/lab classroom mainly used by the School of Journalism with approximately 200 students using it per week. Current instruction in the room utilizes a computer and an outdated hand-me-down projector with poor quality projection and a screen that needs to be tied to stay down when used. Additional audio-visual equipment utilizes outdated hardware. Age, makeshift construction and upkeep make the current bench workstations, non-ergonomic as well as non-ADA compliant. The facility is below AEJMC standards for re-accreditation in 2010. A new teaching station and reconfiguration of workstations will provide a more conducive learning environment. COMM 108, 110, 228 – Upgrading of Adobe’s Creative Design Suite software to CS4 is needed to keep the School’s software compatible with industry. A change to a floating license used by EMC utilizing Sassafras monitoring software will minimize future upgrade costs and monitors software use. Instead of purchasing a software license for each design workstation (approximately 60) we only need to acquire about half that amount. Roughly 400 students in various classes utilize the requested server. It replaces an outdated server that has limited storage and operating capacity. Additional hard drives provide a RAID for backup.
