This proposal is for the installation of one state-of-the art, virtual acoustic technology ensemble practice room (V-Room) in the area adjacent to SFA 115 (SFA V-W). V-Rooms provide different ambient environments for study (i.e., simulate a concert hall) and include built-in recording and playback functions to enhance study. Over the last several years the School of Music has been involved with TAF in upgrading deplorable practice room conditions to state-of-the art facilities in order to provide the tools students need to pursue a degree in music. We are in great need of small ensemble practice room space and this request is for an ensemble-size practice room with piano and an acoustic environment suitable for such rehearsal. This space will also be used to provide adjuncts a place to teach lessons on days when space is at a premium. This room would benefit approximately 340 music majors and an estimated 250 music minors in the current year. The available space is currently not usable, due to its configuration; it is the last space available for a V-Room and as such should (if fulfilled) conclude all future requests for practice room facilities.
