In keeping with the University’s priorities to move classes into the center of campus, the Dance program was recently relocated to Murphy Center. The renovation of the new space did not allow for the purchase and installation of the equipment necessary for proper dance instruction in this new space. This proposal seeks to add those items. Also, the Speech and Theatre Production lab was relocated last year in an effort to allow more space for production teaching and practical application work. We want to add additional computers and a software upgrade to the lab. Lighting instruction is often difficult as the fixtures are large and require much power. We would like to purchase a new scaled lighting lab that will allow students to practice and learn lighting principles in the production lab with very minimal power consumption. In a theatre, backdrops are often used to create scenes on stage. New technology has provided a less expensive way to have these drops, and we would like to purchase a large format printer to produce these backdrops.
