This project is a renovation to Recording Industry Studios D & E (Ezell 100 and 101). This project will address the deficiencies of the control room acoustic environment and monitoring systems, replace the obsolete Sony digital consoles, update Pro-Tools systems, outboard gear, and cover installation costs. The two primary and serious issues are: Exceptionally poor control room monitoring and aging consoles that are inappropriate for modern music and audio production. The deficiencies are a serious impediment to student success and must be addressed. Students are currently forced to work in rooms that grossly inaccurate and deceptive. Some of the issues can be addressed through acoustic treatments and electronics, without major construction. The Sony consoles are out of production. The critical failure of one or both of these consoles during a semester could be disastrous. Therefore replacement of these consoles before failure is an urgent need. Pro Tools and outboard gear updates/additions are needed to support analog consoles, compliment the studio outfitting, and bring the facilities up to modern standards. Approximately 150 students use these studios yearly. These students are enrolled in courses including: RIM 4400, MRAT 6050, 6130, 6140, 6210, and 6650. These studios also support MTSU Records (RIM 4810).
