The PhD in Literacy Studies is a research-intensive and applied program that requires specific equipment to train students for the research requirements of the doctoral degree. The requested funds are to cover materials crucial to the development of the students’ research expertise. 1) One of the major requirements of the program is for students to present their research at national or international conferences. The program wants to acquire a large color printer to meet this need and also significantly drive the cost down of poster printing. The program will pay for the cartridges and any maintenance costs. 2) The program is also in need of an additional computer for data acquisition and analysis with the Electroecenphalographic system used by students for brain research. The system is also used by graduate students in the Experimental Psychology Program and undergraduate Psychology students conducting independent studies (6-8 students on average each semester). Currently, the system only has one MacBookPro computer used for both data acquisition and data processing and analysis, which limits the time of availability for students wishing to either run their experiments or process their data.
