Over the past 20+ years the University has spent virtually no capital outlay resouces on pianos. The University's School of Music needs to maintain 52 acoustical pianos in its inventory to meet the demand for usage by students and faculty. The University currently owns only 27 acoustical pianos and is fortunate enough to have a partnership with American Keyboard that provides the other 25 that are needed at no cost. This program will not last forever and steps should be taken immediately to plan for this eventuality. Pianos are and always have been on the cutting edge of technology. The Steinway corp. has over 100 U.S. patents on the manufacuring process for their instruments that are considered to be the best in the world. When maintained properly, Steinway pianos will last over 30 years before major rebuilding is required. If rebuilt, they will last for another 30 years. This project would replace all existing pianos immediately although they would be purchased through a lease-puchase program over a ten year period. Specific items and information will be provided on hard copy. However, if funded, the University can pay a total payment over ten years that is less than the current MSRP including interests! This is truly an exceptional opportunity to provide instruments for the University for the next 30+ years, have them available immediately, and pay over a ten year period.
