The purpose of this proposal is to provide 24 iPads and discipline specific software along with access to Battelle for Kid’s Modules for teacher candidates. The number of courses benefiting from this proposal is 4 with 5 sections each semester. Approximately 400 teacher candidates would benefit with this 21st century technology. The iPads will assist teacher candidates to research, problem solve, and to constantly seek new and different ways of teaching students who are struggling. This supports the requirements set forth by the Tennessee Board of Regents. Access to the Batelle for Kid’s Modules and other application software will provide opportunities for teacher candidates in the areas of value-added analysis and formative instructional practices as well as other educational improvement strategies. The iPads loaded with content specific software and Google applications will enable teacher candidates to form professional learning teams that will enhance problem based learning. When they enter the public schools they will have the knowledge of how to assess, tools to offer struggling students, collaboration opportunities, familiarity with new technologies, and completion of modules. Use of iPads with specific content to the K-6 discipline and the Battelle for Kids Modules directly supports Ready2Teach, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, Tennessee Teacher Licensure Standards General and Professional. Standard 11 specifically states that candidates use technology and technology based resources to facilitate developmentally appropriate student learning. Standard 11.c. suggests that candidates effectively use and manage all technology available to them and explore uses of emerging resources.
