Four out of the ten master classrooms in the School of Music, WMB 173, SFA 101, SFA 208 and SFA 207, are in need of some audio and video upgrades to keep them fully functional and up to date, as some of the equipment is well over 10 years old. For example, certain document cameras are very old and have poor resolution, and sound amplifiers are old and sometimes produce a loud, irritating buzzing sound which interferes with music reproduction (particularly in SFA 207). In each of these rooms video projectors are old and have low resolution and are not as bright as the newer projectors. In addition to the equipment, we are asking for card swipe access to be added to each of these 4 rooms, for access by faculty and GTAs. Based an X-25 report for Fall 2011, these four classrooms alone were used by 2,828 registered students per week (this figure includes multiple registrations). Individual non-duplicated student attendees in these specific classrooms numbered 1,188 per week (when multiple registrations are filtered out). All of our graduate students (currently 35) take instruction in these classrooms, and the upgrades will enhance our graduate program.
