The HSC Annex is scheduled to be razed and will no longer be available to the Human Sciences Department. Over 14,000 square feet of space will be lost. Students and faculty must have a place to go! Renovation of the LRC to house the Interior Design and Textiles, Merchandising and Design programs requires the completion of the teaching spaces to meet current MTSU classroom environments. The budget for the renovation does not complete the project. Approximately 300 students will be directly impacted by the new studio spaces with another 400 in the department indirectly affected by the change in facilities. Both IDES and TXMD students are primarily visual learners with high levels of expectations concerning accessibility to technology for learning, research, design development, product development, and visually oriented presentations. Both curricula are heavily immersed in technology as a teaching/learning tool. Accreditation standards for the Human Sciences Department as a whole and for specific programs require facilities to be well equipped and promote learning of the current generation via technology.
