The Department proposes to update the technology in an existing master classroom -- PH 218 -- one of the first master classrooms installed in PH. Existing equipment is dated -- a point noted by the professors who are increasingly doing multimedia presentations/lectures -- and various components are known to act out somewhat indiscriminately resulting in numerous disruptions. The upgrade which we first requested in 2008 is necessary for reliable and effective instruction. This upgrade will benefit nearly 600 students each semester from Sociology and Anthropology (15 scheduled classes from our department alone with most enrolling 40 students), History and English in general education and upper division courses. Sociology/Anthropology classes are undergraduate only. As CLA is lacking behind most other colleges in the number of master classrooms, it is important that the ones we do have work well.
