University College requests to upgrade and replace the videoconferencing/master classroom equipment in KOM 122. The classroom is used to provide courses via videoconferencing to several off-campus sites for the MST Math graduate program, the MSPS graduate program, and the ELED 2+2 undergraduate program (average 4-5 courses per semester). The classroom is also used by various academic departments as a master classroom (average 3-5 sections per semester). In the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 academic year, 134 students were enrolled in eight videoconferencing courses which used KOM 122. Of those 134 students, 63% were undergraduate and 37% were graduate students. In the same two-semester period, there were 147 students enrolled in six non-videoconferencing courses which used KOM 122 (all courses were at the undergraduate level). We also expect usage as a videoconferencing classroom to increase as demand for videoconferencing courses at the MTEC off-campus site increases. The current videoconferencing system is over ten years old, and it does not function well as the master classroom technology for MTSU faculty teaching in the room. We propose to purchase new equipment, including television monitors, videoconferencing system, microphones, touch panel control system, cabling, and equipment racks, to provide our MTSU students and faculty with a more user-friendly and updated master classroom system.
