The Basic Electricity Laboratory of the Engineering Technology Department, located in VET 176, is in dire need of 14 digital multi-meters to replace existing ones that either do not work at all or do not work properly. The lab has 14 student workstations and serves approximately 300 students enrolled in several courses each year. Students build and test electrical and electronic circuits and the digital multi-meter is an essential part of each workstation. The meters are used to measure voltages, currents, resistances, and other electrical parameters. The new multi-meters will be critical for the required hands-on student learning approach, which is our program’s best strength. All Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) are required to take ET 4830 – Vibration which is a three credit hour lecture/lab course. Currently this course has an enrollment of 20-24 students. We are asking for $5000 to purchase a sound and vibration analyzer which is a very essential equipment to conduct the experiments. We have been using donated several vibration measuring instruments. Our students have been able to conduct critical experiments. In fall 2011the sound and vibration analyzer stopped working and is not repairable. In addition, our programs are up for an accreditation visit by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, TAC/ABET, this coming fall. It is crucial that our laboratories be up-to-date so that we will pass through this accreditation cycle successfully.
