This proposal is to upgrade the teaching and research capabilities of two Davis Science rooms, 116 and 124. These rooms are primarily used by upper division/graduate courses for lecture/laboratories (DSB 124, 8 courses, BIOL 3250H, 3251, 4200, 4460/5460, 4351/6351, 6460, and FRSC 3010 and 4010, annual enrollment 488; DSB 116, 5 courses BIOL 4111, 4211/6391, 4500/5500, 4590/6590, annual enrollment 200) as well as research when classes are not in session. Many course laboratories and all research by students and faculty are increasingly dependent on systems for data acquisition and analysis. This proposal is to upgrade those capabilities for all students from undergraduates through masters and doctoral. Data acquisition systems will be housed in 116, and will primarily enable data capture of many physiological parameters. Data analysis will involve laptop computers for both rooms, especially DSB 124 where Genetics 3250 and Biometry, 4350/6350 labs are taught, as well as data graphing and analysis software which will reside on the laptops as well as some existing desktops (WPS 305 computer lab).
