The department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) is the home of 1,000 undergraduate majors, 100 MS students, and 40 Ph.D. students housed in Murphy Center (MC) and Alumni Memorial Gym (AMG). HHP also offers service program courses that impact over 3,000 additional students. MC room 100-B is location for only 10 sections of courses this semester (431 undergraduate students and 13 graduate students) from both within and outside of the department. This classroom seats 48 students and is currently underused due to a lack of functional technology to support teaching. Our request is that a Nomad Cart be funded for this space. In addition, we request that a central swipe lock be installed to make the cart secure. The department’s heavy emphasis in graduate education mandates significant research productivity by our graduate students (ex Scholars Day 2011 a total of 29 abstracts accepted). Toward that end HHP is requesting funding to purchase 56 SPSS renewals so that our undergraduate and graduate students will have access to the software "locally" for data analysis associated with research. Murphy Center 100 A is the site for multiple graduate courses in data analysis and statistics with 29 PCs loaded with this software. The additional sites for the software are AMG 152 & AMG 153 (Exercise Science Labs), AMG 217 (HHP Research Lab), and AMG 204 (Computer outfitted Master Classroom). It is vital that our students have access to this software for successful completion of research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
