How to Create Integrative Themed Courses for the True Blue Core

Spring 2023

More Details

Would MTSU students prefer to take a course called “US History II” or “The Modern US Military”? What about “Survey World Civilizations I” or “Food and Drink in the Ancient World”? This brief presentation and panel discussion present new integrative-themed course ideas for the True Blue Core. Integrative-themed courses provide an opportunity to move beyond your department’s standard general education course offerings to create dynamic and flexible classes faculty want to teach and students want to take. They integrate themes and skills that are possible to explore across disciplines, planting seeds for exciting future collaborations among students and faculty. In this discussion, instructors who have created integrative-themed courses will provide sample syllabi and best practices. We will explain how and why to propose these courses for the True Blue Core—including the mechanics of submitting proposals and figuring out how to make it work in your department—and brainstorm new ideas.
