Director

Dr. Christopher Weedman has twenty years of experience teaching film studies, literature, and first-year writing courses at the university level. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in film studies at MTSU, he regularly teaches an ENGL 2020 special topics course on British film and popular culture of “The Swinging Sixties” as part of the General Education English curriculum. Dr. Weedman is co-editor of the scholarly collections Adult Themes: British Cinema and the X Certificate in the Long 1960s (Bloomsbury, 2023) and Liminal Noir in Classical World Cinema (Edinburgh University Press, 2023). His scholarship has also appeared in such journals as Film International, Jewish Film and New Media, Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, Quarterly Review of Film and Video, and Senses of Cinema, as well as multiple edited collections. You can find additional information about Dr. Weedman on his English Department faculty profile.

Program Coordinator

Dr. Marshall Lewis Johnson’s teaching and research interests are in Irish literature, first-year writing, the novel, and the coming-of-age novel. He joined the faculty at MTSU in Fall 2025 and has taught various general education courses, including first-year writing, at multiple institutions since 2009. In addition, he has covered courses on the Irish coming-of-age novel, the postcolonial/transatlantic coming-of-age novel, modernist poetry (post-World War I), and Irish crime fiction. His scholarly work has appeared in various journals and essay collections. An excerpt from his current project, Invaded Narration: The Coming-of-Age Novel since James Joyce, has been published in Irish Studies Review. Program Assistants

Kat Kolby is an English Ph.D. student and graduate teaching assistant at MTSU. She earned both her B.A. in Philosophy and M.A. in English from MTSU. She is interested in studying children’s literature and gamification in the classroom, particularly with integrating table-top roleplaying games into her curriculum. Kat has served as both Treasurer and President of the English Graduate Student Organization and is happy to answer any questions for new GTAs or faculty concerning the program. Email her any time about coursework, managing the classroom, creating syllabi or assignments, her scholarly interests, or just to chat!

Lalonie McCarter is an English Ph.D. student and graduate teaching assistant at MTSU. She is new to the team, but eager to help you with any Gen Ed English Program resources, needs, or questions you might have. Lalonie enjoys exploring new approaches to teaching composition and is always happy to brainstorm about activities and project ideas. Pop in the office to say hello, and see pictures of her cat or talk about the development of fairytales!
