Benjamin Hartman

Major Benjamin Crockett Hartman Jr. was an enlisted Major and Supply Staff Officer for the Army’s 1st Aviation Brigade, 17th Aviation Group, Headquarters Company and was awarded an Air Medal. He died through non-hostile action, on September 19, 1968, in the Darlac province while serving in the Vietnam War. He was passenger on the US Army helicopter OH-6A tail number 67-16015 flying out of Nha Trang in South Vietnam during a staff reconnaissance mission to coordinate aviation activities at airfields in the area. They experienced a mechanical or flight issue and crashed.

Major Hartman Jr. is buried at Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee. This is a National American Cemetery administered through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Major Hartman JR. is honored on the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington DC. Name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 43w, Line 36.
