How to apply for jobs with the State of Tennessee
Anna Baker has proudly served the State of Tennessee for over four years. A passionate public servant, continuous learner and ENTJ millennial, she began her career with the State in 2015 as the Executive Assistant to Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder with the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services where she supported the operations and strategic initiatives of the Agency. She transitioned to the Department of Human Resources Learning and Leadership Development (LLD) Division, in 2018 to work with the Conferences and Events team bringing State employees challenging and engaging learning opportunities. In March of 2020, she began working with the State’s Recruiting Team leading its TN Leaders of Tomorrow program – an Internship program supporting 23 agencies and students across a variety of industries and career interests.
Anna earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from the University of Florida and is utilizing the State’s fee-waiver program to earn her Master of Business Administration degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She currently resides in Nashville with her husband, Daniel, and their two hound dogs.
Ylonda R. Banister, MSG, USA, Ret.
Ylonda Banister, HR Program Manager, Recruiting Division, Tennessee State Government, Department of Human Resources (DOHR), and Hiring Our Heroes Facilitator for the State. She has more than 10 years of experience in recruiting and has emerged as a top performer in State Government. She provides enterprise wide talent acquisition assistance to agencies with a focus on collaboration, customer service and process improvement.
Prior to starting in State Government, Ylonda served in the United States Army as a Recruiting and Retention Program Manager and at Fort Campbell, Kentucky as a Reserves Component Career Counselor. She served in various locations around the world to include Afghanistan and Bosnia. As a dedicated member of the Active Guard Reserve and Army Reserve she retired from military service in 2017 after 27 years. She is a graduate of the 2017, Hiring Our Heroes class. In recognition of her work and service she was recognized by Eight Flames of Hope Foundation as an Unsung Military Shero.
Ylonda is an alumna of Trident University with a B.S. in Business Administration. Outside of work she spends her free time with her family and partner Kevin Hicks traveling and serving in her community. She is a member of DoHR’s Wellness Council, Middle Tennessee Society for Human Resource Management (MTSHRM), National Coalition of 100 Black Women – Metro Nashville Chapter and Women Veterans of the America.

Kristy Hillesheim, HR Recruiter – Jr, Recruiting Division, Tennessee State Government, Department of Human Resources (DOHR).
She has more than 19 years of experience with State of Tennessee, with over 16 years within the Department of Human Resources. Throughout her years with the Department of Human Resources she has focused on streamlining processes, training Human Resources staff on new processes and providing talent acquisition assistance to agencies through collaboration, process improvement and customer service.
Kristy is an alumna of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a B.S. in Geoscience. She is a mother of 5 children and outside of work she spends her free time camping and hiking with her family. She is also the Cubmaster for a local Cub Scout Pack in Smyrna. Being a den leader with this pack for over 11 years she has led many community projects to provide services throughout the towns of Smyrna and Murfreesboro with a focus on learning and providing for the community while having fun.
