College of Liberal Arts Day for Scholars Week 2023

Wednesday, March 22nd – Simmons Amphitheater

Students and faculty are invited to join us for CLA Scholars Day 2023.  The event will feature scholarly and creative presentations as part of MTSU Scholars Week. Participation from all disciplines within the college is encouraged, as are interdisciplinary proposals.

Presentations will be made in the following categories:

  • Individual Research Presentations by students and faculty (approx. 15 minutes)
  • Panel Presentations (30-60 minutes)
  • MTSU Arts Projects – creative performances by students and/or faculty

CLA Scholars Day will also feature the MTSU Scholars Week Annual Speech Contest, hosted by the Department of Communication Studies. The event, co-hosted by the College of Liberal Arts, is open to any current MTSU student who has completed or is enrolled in COMM 2200 through the University. College of Basic and Applied Sciences Day 

Tuesday, March 21st – Science Building Atrium

Celebrate all things CBAS on Tuesday, March 21st in the Science Building atrium!

From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm will be a Poster Session highlighting student research, refreshments, and departmental highlights.

Following the Poster Session will be a keynote address and Poster Session awards.

Our keynote speaker will be Dr. H Philip Stahl, a Senior Optical Physicist at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. His research is in the development of technologies to design, manufacture, test, and control ultra-stable high-precision large-aperture space telescopes to image exoplanets.  His talk will review how science objectives drove the Webb architecture, e.g. aperture, wavelength range and operating temperature; provides an overview of the Webb primary mirror technology development; and presents some science results.

Students wanting to participate in the Poster Session should register through the Scholars Week submission portal by February 28th.

Human Sciences at Scholars Week 2023

March 15, 2023 – in conjunction with Spalding University, we have a virtual book discussion on Righteous Self-Determination by Patricia Reid-Merritt.  The book offers an opportunity to explore the Black Social Work Movement in America, social policy, and African-centered approaches to social work practice.  The book provides insight into how the National Association of Black Social Workers originated and how the organization has contributed to shaping public policy, child welfare, and the social work profession.

March 30, 2023 – we will host Distinguished Lecturer, Dr. Richard LaFleur who is a leading therapist and researcher on Therapeutic Enactment, an approach that has been effective in treating veterans with PTSD.

The CBAS Poster Session will be held virtually in 2021 and be available for viewing April 12 – 23, 2021.  We invite all CBAS Faculty and Students to visit the CBAS Poster Session via Symposium.  Access to the event will be available beginning April 12 by visiting this website https://symposium.foragerone.com/mtsuscholarsweek/presentations.  To view the CBAS poster submissions, please select “Basic and Applied Sciences” under the College tab.  Winners at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels for the CBAS Poster Session will be announced on Friday, April 16.
