Welcome to MTSU's Department of Aerospace !
Come to MTSU, major in aerospace, and choose among five concentrations: Flight Dispatch,
Maintenance Management, Professional Pilot, Administration, and Technology. Master's
degrees in Aviation Administration and Aerospace education are also offered.
On behalf of the faculty of the Department of Aerospace, welcome to Middle Tennessee
State University (MTSU). We are very proud of our department and our graduates. Established in 1942, the Aerospace Department is now a signature department at MTSU
and has grown into one of the most respected aerospace programs in the nation. Fourteen
full-time faculty members, 35 flight instructors, and over 750 majors places it among
the largest of the nation's collegiate aviation programs. Students from 32 states
and 16 foreign countries have been drawn to study here.
We feel that we have much to offer the aspiring aviation professional. Our programs
include concentrations as diverse as aerospace technology, flight dispatch, professional
pilot, aviation maintenance, and aerospace administration. Each of these concentrations
prepares the graduate for a career in a specific area of the aerospace industry.
In addition, the Aerospace Department has one of the largest university Air Traffic
Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) programs in the country.
This program allows graduates to be recommended to the FAA for the final segment of
Air Traffic Controller Training and hiring. AT-CTI is independent of the five aerospace
concentrations, allowing any MTSU Aerospace student to enter the program. Aerospace
graduates hold responsible positions with companies throughout the United States and
Internationally.
The MTSU Aerospace faculty represents a broad range of experience and education.
All faculty are pilots in addition to having a field of specialization. The faculty
members are widely recognized and respected within the industry for their knowledge
and experience. They are also well known for their willingness to work with and advise
students, giving these students the benefit of their real world and real life experience.
Department mission:
The mission of the Aerospace Department is,"to prepare a student with the foundation
upon which to develop and function as an aviation professional." Specifically, our
mission is three pronged: to prepare Aerospace majors with a base for graduate school;
to prepare aviation professionals for the aerospace manufacturing and air transportation
industry; and to offer courses for a major in Aerospace for graduate students.
Once again, we want to welcome you, and invite you to ----
