This table should assist faculty course developers and chairs as they plan their various online courses. Some additional resources include the Registrar’s course types page, and the MTSU Online course development process.

Online | Asynchronous online through D2L. | Cannot have any required synchronous meetings or any in-person on-ground meetings. Optional meetings or orientations such as “virtual office hours” may be offered. Students cannot be penalized for non-attendance. A good practice would be to record and share any optional virtual meetings. If proctored exams are required, information will be listed in the class schedule. | Distance Education Fee applies. $10 per credit hour. Less than 50% of meetings are synchronous. “Adjusted meeting times” means this: Suppose your course is scheduled for MWF 9:00 to 10:00. You meet Mondays live synchronously and do not meet on Wednesday and Friday. Review-Only == No MTSU Online course development processes apply. Course is submitted to MTSU Online for review relating to alignment with quality and best practices associated with FERPA, accessibility, and SACSCOC accreditation standards. Department is responsible for final approval.
**Synchronous (Remote) courses previously offered as Remote do not need new review.
