Online Degrees, Certificates, and Concentrations
- View this list of all fully online undergraduate and graduate programs.
- If a program (a degree, certificate, or concentration) is listed as online, that means that all the coursework, lectures, assignments, and interactions with instructors and peers are conducted online (meaning via technology and not in-person or on-ground). This format allows you to complete your studies without needing to physically attend a campus.
- Instructors have the option to require live proctored exams, which can happen via a computer or at an approved testing center in the geographic area where you live. Any required meetings like this will be described in the course notes when you register for a course.
A “hybrid” program means that over 50% of the courses in the program (degree, certificate, or concentration) are available online, and some of the courses (less than 50%) require attendance in person on campus.
Tuition and Costs
- Tuition and fees are found at the MT One Stop, which provides integrated services in the areas of Financial Aid, Tuition and Billing, and transcripts.
- Online courses have a distance education fee of $10 per credit hour. These funds are used to build high-quality online courses, hire and train faculty teaching online, and provide online student services such as tutoring, mental health counseling, and specialized library resources. Information is available on the Miscellaneous Course Fees page
- There may be costs for materials and textbooks in individual courses. You can purchase these via the MTSU Phillips Bookstore.
Applying, Registering, and Withdrawing
- Visit How to Apply.
- Register for online courses through the online portal PipelineMT.
- Some courses may require you to complete a Permission of Department (POD) form before you can register.
- Here explains how to register for MTSU online courses.
PipelineMT is the online portal you use to register for courses, pay tuition and fees, access financial aid resources, and connect with other MTSU services.
- Withdrawal options are discussed on the Withdrawal website.
Obtain your card and access your account online using the BlueID Online portal.
It can be used to purchase goods and services and access MTSU athletic and MT Engage events. A mobile version is available.
Taking an Online Course
- In most cases, you have access to online courses five days prior to the start of the semester. Some professors may prefer, however, to make their content available on the first day of class.
- Access your online course here at D2L. D2L is the MTSU learning management system.
- D2L Video Tutorials
Books for MTSU online, correspondence, blended, and synchronous courses can be purchased or rented from the MTSU Bookstore on campus or through the MTSU Bookstore website. Find the books you need for courses by searching using your M# or by the course.
MTSU Online faculty use a variety of methods to share materials, promote interaction between students, and monitor student progress throughout their courses. The benefit of completing your degree online is flexibility. A few courses may require specific log-on times for certain activities or assignments, and all courses have assignments and due dates.
Most MTSU online courses are asynchronous (not at the same time).
Some online courses have a synchronous (live via computer at a specific time). If your course has synchronous activities, those will be noted in the information about the course when you are registering for courses.
- When you take fully online courses, you are not required to attend any on-campus meetings. Professors may offer optional meetings like virtual office hours, but you are not penalized for non-attendance.
- Your professor may require proctored exams, which could be administered online through ProctorU, at the MTSU Testing Center, or at approved off-campus sites. Please note that some off-campus locations may charge testing fees.
- Review your course syllabus or contact your instructor to determine if your course includes any proctored exams.
- For additional Information on online proctoring refer to the ProctorU Online Proctoring Support & Resources for Students information.
Online learning certainly isn’t easier in terms of your faculty member or instructor expecting any less of you. Doing well takes self-discipline, time management, and personal responsibility. Because you may not have to be in a classroom at a certain time on a certain day, it’s easier to tell yourself that you will complete that assignment or do the reading later and then put off the schoolwork until you are rushed to complete the assignments. Online students need to be self-disciplined and mange their time well to succeed.
- A blended course combines online and in-person learning learning. We combine traditional classroom experiences with online components, offering a mix of in-person and virtual instruction. A blended course will require the student to attend in person and on campus for a portion of the course.
- If a course is blended, that will be apparent in the notes about the course when you register for the course.
Use the instructions provided in the MTSU Student Grade Appeals Policy to complete and submit a final course grade appeal.
- You can report an issue or problem with a course on the Issue Reporting website.
- Complaints related to accreditation and fraud via MTSU’s accrediting agency, SACSCOC.
- Complaints related to consumer protection laws offered under the terms and conditions of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA), must first be filed with the institution to seek resolution. If the resolution is not found, contact the Institution’s Home State SARA Portal Entity. Here is the list of SARA State Portal Entities.
- Specific questions about MTSU State Authorization of Distance Education can be directed to MTSU Online.
