MTSU has been accredited since 1928; SACSCOC last reaffirmed the University’s accreditation in 2016. In 2022, the University successfully passed review of its Fifth-Year Interim Report by SACSCOC. The next decennial reaffirmation of accreditation will take place in 2026.

Many MTSU academic programs are accredited by specialized accreditors that, like SACSCOC, have been approved by the US Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Institutional and specialized accreditations assure students and members of the public of the high quality of MTSU programs and operations and the integrity of academic credits and degrees earned at the University. Non-accredited MTSU academic programs undergo regular external review as required by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to ensure that all programs meet standards for quality and integrity as demonstrated by peer review.
