Aquatic Recreation provides year-round access to various water-based activities at the indoor and outdoor pools: open swim, specialty programs, certification trainings, and community reservations. The indoor pool includes a water slide, diving board, accessible ramp, multiple ladders, and step entrance.
We take great pride in training our team to be American Red Cross-certified lifeguards. If you are interested in working as a lifeguard or attending a certification course, click the appropriate links below:
New Guidelines for Summer:
Outdoor Pool - The three lanes in the outdoor pool are for reservation. If no one has reserved it, then any patron can swim in that lane. If a patron is late to their reservation, then another patron can swim in that lane until the late patron arrives. Those who wish to use the outdoor pool for leisure will not have a reservation but will check in at the equipment desk and receive a lanyard with a chair number. They may pick any chair to sit in and stay as long as they would like. Only those who reserved for lap swim must get out at the 45 min mark. The max capacity for leisure patrons is 25 and 3 for lap swimmers. Only 28 people allowed total. Follow same procedures as the indoor pool for lap swimming reservations, except EVERYONE must return their lanyard to the equipment desk upon exit.
Indoor Pool - We are still using the exact same system that we did this semester. The lanes will no longer be spaced apart. There will be 8 lanes that are available to swim in. The lap swimming patron must get out at the 45 min mark.
Weather- If inclement weather is present during the operating hours of the outdoor pool, move to the indoor pool. Patrons are welcome to swim laps in the indoor pool or play in shallow area. Patrons without reservations may use the lanes that are not reserved. Radio front desk and let them know of the change. Follow all normal thunder/lightening procedures.
- 45 minute sessions (15 minute slots between sessions)
- Max of 1 reservation per day
- Must check-in at the equipment desk where you will receive a lanyard for the lane you've reserved online. You will give this lanyard to the lifeguard when you enter the pool.
- If you reserve a time and then cannot attend, please cancel your reservation.
- Reservations can be done by going to bookings on our online portal page or through the MTSU Campus Rec mobile app.
The indoor pool is 33 meters x 25 yards (108 feet x 75 feet) and more than 8,000 square feet! Pool depth ranges from 3.5 feet to 13 feet with approximately 425,000 gallons of water for you to enjoy. An accessibility ramp, step entrance, and 90-foot water slide are at the shallow end. At the deep end, there is a one-meter diving board. Check the schedule posted at the pool and online.
Open Swim. The pool is open for water activity of choice, depending on available space in the pool area.
Guidelines for areas of the pool open:
- 1 lifeguard on duty = 1/3 of pool open
- 2 lifeguards on duty = 2/3 of pool open
- 3 lifeguards on duty = All of pool open
Lap Swimming: Check the posted pool schedule at the pool and online. Training equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys, hand paddles, bar buoys, and buoy belts are available for use.
The outdoor pool has five fountains and measures 25 yards x 50 feet with a 0–5 foot depth. The zero-level entry makes the pool accessible to everyone. The pool is usually open May through Labor Day. Check the schedule posted at the pool and online.
Sundeck and Volleyball Courts
Adjacent to the outdoor pool is a beautiful sundeck. Three outdoor lawn volleyball courts are available. With the outdoor pool close by, it’s the next best thing to the beach!
Our pools are used year-round for special events, group rentals, and birthday parties. Lane rental is $12 per lane. Pool-rental rates vary according to group size and requested time. Call our office to reserve space for your event: 615.898.2104.
