Scholarship Opportunities for Incoming Freshmen

Please visit the following pages for information about scholarships which may be available
to you. Please note that application requirements and deadlines vary; prospective
students should read scholarship descriptions carefully to note important instructions
and information.

MTSU Scholarships
- Incoming Freshman Academic Scholarships
Awarded to first-time freshmen who meet academic requirements.
- DREAM Scholarship
Awarded to first-time freshmen who meet academic and diversity, and financial need
requirements.
- Buchanan Fellowship
MTSU's highest academic award, awarded to first-time freshmen who meet academic requirements;
Recipients are selected by the Honors College, with funding provided through the Financial
Aid Office.
- International Baccalaureate Scholarship
Awarded to first-time freshmen who graduate from high school with an International
Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
- Foundation Scholarships
Awarded by various MTSU departments. All incoming freshmen are encouraged to apply
for Foundation Scholarships offered by the Financial aid Office and the Admissions
Office, in addition to other scholarships of interest. In particular, you may wish
to apply for the Edscholar Scholarship and/or the Centennial Scholarship.
Departmental Scholarships
Several MTSU departments offer departmental scholarships to students participating
in certain courses or activities. Students may or may not be required to major in
a particular area to qualify for such scholarships. Departments offering such scholarships
include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Army ROTC Scholarships
Awarded to ROTC program participants by the Military Science department. For more

- Music Scholarships
Competitive music scholarships are awarded to both music and non-music majors for
instrumental or vocal performance. Band scholarships are also available. For audition

- Athletic Scholarships
Student-Athlete scholarships at MTSU are awarded by the coaching staff of that particular
sport. For more information, please visit the above website.
Students are encouraged to contact other departments of interest, to ask about scholarship
opportunities.
Awards Available to Tennessee Residents
- Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarships
Tennessee residents with a 21 ACT or 3.0 GPA at an eligible high school may qualify
for a lottery scholarship of between $4000 and $5500 per year. A FAFSA must be submitted
at www.fafsa.gov by September 1.
