Josh has served students at MTSU Campus Recreation since Fall of 2007. Previously he was at the University of North Carolina at Asheville and San Juan College before being hired MTSU. Josh’s recreation career started in Outdoor Recreation and you can often find him riding his mountain bike on weekends when he is not out coaching his son’s travel soccer team or cheering on Ohio State football. Josh believes in the power of community and making everyone a part of something. Josh is tasked with departmental leadership and works on growing organizational culture daily. Josh has an amazing wife and two overly-involved children, as well a dog (Fawn) that he doesn’t claim but secretly loves.

Candice Douglas

Candice has been with MTSU since October 2025 and has nearly 25 years of experience working in collegiate recreation and higher education at a variety of institutions serving populations from 10,000 – 30,000+ students. Candice’s recreation career has varied from sport programs to fitness and finally facilities. She is passionate about student and young professional development and serves the NIRSA in varying capacities that helps her pursue that passion.
In her personal time, Candice loves to read, cook, travel (beaches are preferred, but anywhere she can add a stamp to her passport will do), spend time with family, and cheer on the Ohio State Buckeyes football team with her love.

Bryan Anderson
Associate Director of Programs
Bryan has been with MTSU Campus Rec since February 2026. Previously, he worked as the Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs at Tennessee Tech University and the Outdoor Program Manager at the University of Washington in Seattle. Bryan grew up near Seattle, Washington; he earned his bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation and master’s degree in Recreation Administration from Eastern Washington University.
In his free time, Bryan loves hanging out with his wonderful family, playing with his dog Pip, riding his mountain bike, or diving into various woodworking projects.

Charlene has been with MTSU a little over a year after relocating to Tennessee from Ohio. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics with a minor in Equine Sciences from The Ohio State University. She and her husband have been married for 25 years and have two sons. She and her youngest son started MTSU together last fall as she pursues her Master’s degree in Strategic Leadership.
Charlene and her family enjoy fitness, outdoor activities, and water sports. She is also a self-taught cake decorator and enjoys baking and decorating sweet treats to celebrate special occasions.

Kirsten Studdard

Kirsten has been with MTSU Campus Recreations since August 2024. She grew up in Middle Tennessee, and is a graduate from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in Sports and Leisure Studies. Her love for aquatics started at a young age, with competitive swimming, and grew into a passion for teaching others to enjoy aquatics as well.
In her free time, you will find her swimming or somewhere outdoors chasing around her 3 children.

Aidan Kleinman
Aquatics Graduate Assistant
Aidan just began his journey with MTSU Campus Rec in August 2024. Previously, he worked as a Head Lifeguard at the Warwick Valley Country Club, a Deck Supervisor at the YMCA of Middletown, New York, and a Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding Instructor, and Senior Student Manager at Penn State University. Aidan has also worked as a Data Engineering Intern for Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. He is from Warwick, New York and just completed a Bachelor of Science in Data Science at Penn State. Aidan is currently working on completing a master’s in data science at MTSU.
To stay conditioned and up to date with everything aquatics, he swims and exercises, teaches lifeguard classes and assists with aquatics trainings at the REC, and works closely with our lifeguards. Aidan also likes to watch college football, listening to music, the beach, and a good movie.

Corbyn Gilbert

Corbyn has been with MTSU Campus Rec since February 2025. Previously he was at the University of North Texas as the Evening Facility Coordinator and was the Competitive Sports Coordinator at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He has a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences from Texas Tech University and an MBA in Sport Entertainment Management from the University of North Texas. Corbyn has also spent time in secondary education teaching mathematics as well as coaching high school and middle school sports including football, basketball, track and field, tennis, and golf. When not at the Rec Center he enjoys live sporting events and live music! He will participate in any sport activity especially pickleball nowadays. But most importantly he cherishes time spent with family down in Texas.

Micah Reiss

Micah has been a dedicated member of the MTSU Campus Rec team since 2012. A native of Michigan, Micah graduated from Western Michigan University, where he developed a desire to work in Campus Recreation. While attending WMU, he worked for the Athletics Department and served as a Park Ranger.
Outside of work, Micah enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three children. He is an avid outdoorsman who loves exploring nature, whether it’s through hiking, camping, or riding his motorcycle. As a big sports fan, Micah enjoys cheering on his favorite teams and playing with his kids. In his spare time, he can often be found building and crafting projects, combining his love for construction with his creative spirit.

Courtney Gravely
Facilities Graduate Assistant
Courtney has been with MTSU Campus Recreation since August 2023. She is from Manchester, TN, and has grown up around the Murfreesboro area. She transferred to Middle Tennessee State University in 2022 from Motlow State Community College, where she earned her AS in General Studies. Courtney earned her BS in Exercise Science from MTSU in 2024, and she is now working towards a Master of Public Health (MPH) at MTSU. She is the Facilities Management GA at Campus Rec, but she is also a personal trainer and a group fitness instructor.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and dogs; exercising; being outdoors (gardening, hiking, you name it); watching football; playing the piano; and spending time with Jesus!

Tess Swastek

Tess has been with MTSU Campus Rec since March 2022. Previously, she was a Fitness Coordinator at UL Lafayette in Louisiana and Grand Valley State University in Michigan. A proud Michigander, she grew up in Royal Oak and then lived in the Grand Rapids area while completing a BS in Exercise Science and MEd in Higher Education Student Affairs at GVSU. Tess is currently completing a master’s in public health at MTSU and a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training.
When she can find the time, she reads, runs, practices yoga, goes to too many concerts, crochets, and tends to her garden and many houseplants. She loves spending time time outdoors, especially Lake Michigan. Above all, she is happiest spending time with her boyfriend, Ben, and their dogs, Rizzo and Roux.

Caleb Paschall

Caleb is a graduate of MTSU and has been a part of the MTSU community since his first semester as a student back in 1996. He’s a certified Personal Trainer through the ISSA, and specializes in mobility, MMA conditioning, calisthenics, and functional aging. He also currently teaches Self-Defense as an adjunct through MTSU’s Health and Human Performance department and currently holds an instructor certification through Focus Counter Violence. In his free time, Caleb games, reads, discusses Geek culture with his friends (especially the Lord of the Rings books), and occasionally gets to act and choreograph fight scenes for low budget indie movies. He’s been married for 21 years to his wife Louise who’s a Social Worker in Manchester, and they currently have 1 dog, a spirited little Bernedoodle named Daisy.

Julia Rutledge

Julia is from Johnson City, Tennessee. She has been with Campus Recreation since she transferred to MTSU in the Fall of 2022. She has received an A.S. in General Studies from Northeast State Community College and a B.S. in Film and Video Production from MTSU and is now working toward a M.S. in Media and Communication.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time with friends, crocheting, playing the violin and ukulele, and learning guitar.

Blake has called Middle Tennessee home since he was five years old, and has worked at MT Campus Recreation since 2018. His educational background includes B.A. in Theology and Youth Ministry from Lipscomb University, a M.S. in Sport Management and Recreation from MTSU, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sport Management. His favorite outdoor activities are white water kayaking, fly fishing, and backpacking.
Blake spends his free time with his two young sons, his amazing wife, and dog Hazel, taking them camping and kayaking as often as possible. Or just playing in the dirt, it’s all about the same anyways :).

Sarah Lowe

Sarah is a current student of the Leisure, Sports and Tourism Management master’s program and works for Middle Tennessee Outdoor Pursuits as their graduate assistant. She was born and raised in Tennessee and if you ask her, she will tell you all her favorite recreation spots in the state. She also previously earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from MTSU. In her free time, Sarah enjoys rock climbing, long day hikes, and travelling to new places.

Brooke Legens has been with MTSU since Spring of 2024. She is from Dallas, TX and has over 25 years of Dance and Cheer experience. Brooke is an Award winning Dancer, Coach, and Choreographer having earned several accolades including multiple National Championships and was an NCAA Cheerleader. She danced at the professional level as an NBA Dancer for the Dallas Mavericks for several years before retiring in 2018. Brooke still remains active in the NFL Cheer/NBA Dance world and is passionate about training her athletes for the professional level.
Outside of coaching, Brooke is a wife and a mom to three boys! She and her family enjoy spending time outside, working out, playing football, roaming Target, eating Italian ice, and cheering on the Vols & the Dallas Cowboys (painful, I know). Fun fact about Brooke: She competed in the Miss America Organization and was the 2023 Best Trivia Dancer winner for the Live with Kelly & Mark show in NYC!

Dan Payne

Dan has been with MTSU Campus Recreation since July 2019 and has over 15 years of experience working in Campus Recreation and Higher Education at a variety of different schools. He obtained a bachelors degree from Florida State University and a Masters degree from the University of Iowa.
Dan is a sports guy and a nerd. He loves to play and watch disc golf, pickleball, baseball, and football and officiates high school baseball and football. Dan also loves to read and watch any fantasy or sci-fi stories and volunteers at a local animal shelter.

Tyler is first semester Graduate Assistant with MTSU Sports Programs. Previously he served as MTSU Competitive Sports Supervisor for two years as an undergraduate student. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Leisure and Sport Management this past summer, Tyler is now pursuing a Master’s degree in Leisure, Sport, and Tourism Management, specializing in Leisure and Recreation Services. Tyler is originally from Lenoir City Tennessee. In his free time Tyler likes to lift weights, run, play recreational sports, and watch sports.

Jackson is a first year graduate student here at MTSU in pursuit of an MS in Leisure and Sport management. While in grad school he will be serving as one of the competitive sports graduate assistants, mainly in regards to sport clubs. Originally from Raleigh North Carolina, Jackson attended undergrad at East Carolina University achieving a BS in Sports Studies. In his free time he loves, watching and participating in sports, taking advantage of the Rec Center’s amenities, and spending time with friends and family.
